What happens to your skin while on a plane?

Thinking of travelling overseas for the September holidays? This is what you should know about the changes your skin undergoes when you are on flight!
Firstly, you may experience dry skin on the plane. This is due to a drop in humidity levels from the ideal levels of 40-70%, to 30% within the cabin due to high altitudes, causing your skin to be dehydrated as moisture will be pulled out - even when you are on a short 2 hour flight!
Next, you might also experience breakouts. As 50% of air in the cabin is recycled for ventilation, it allows bacteria, residue and all nasties to form and gather on the surface of your skin. This leads to clogged pores and eventually breakouts!
Aren’t you enjoying that window seat? Admiring the fluffy clouds in the sky, taking photos of the limitless horizon…. However, having a bird’s eye view of them means less cloud cover from harmful UV rays! This creates free radicals which are cell damaging, and also causes premature ageing.
Lastly, you may also feel a loss in luminosity when you are on the plane. Due to its high pressure in the cabin, lesser nutrients and blood are being delivered to the surface of your skin, which may cause you to lose that glow!
So what could you do on flight to save your skin?
-
Bring along a mist that is contained in a bottle to enjoy instant hydration whenever your skin feels like it needs a boost!
If you’re searching for one, look no further. Try: Dew Potion - A waterless essence mist with a spray bottle that gives your skin that much needed moisture anytime, anywhere, and works especially well in dry conditions. It also protects your skin from pollutants and environmental stressors, while also blocking out irritants by eliminating free radicals that increases the ageing process - a perfect spritz and remedy for having to stay in recycled air and low humidities!
-
Pack a good moisturiser!
Although you are on flight, your skincare routine should not be sacrificed. Remember to bring along a good moisturiser so you could still return skin moisture levels to normal.
Try: Idyllic Fields - A waterless daytime moisturiser that effectively rectifies skin dryness, inflammation and compromised skin barrier functions. It can give you immediate ample hydration, rebalance microbes on your skin and locks in moisture 10x better than hyaluronic acid!
-
Don’t forget sunscreen!
As mentioned earlier, sun rays can reach you through a more direct path as you are a few thousand feet in the air above the clouds. Hence, applying sunscreen onboard is still essential!
Try: Morning Glow - A physical sunscreen that protects you from UVA and UVB rays, environmental aggravations, and premature ageing. It also contains an optimal amount of 2% niacinamide that strengthens skin barrier and prevents moisture loss while fight free radicals and healing acne, hence covering all your skincare needs in-flight!
